IN THIS LESSON
EVENT DESCRIPTION:
Textiles carry stories-of touch, repair, tradition, and care. In this interactive workshop, we'll explore how fiber arts and everyday fabrics can become powerful therapeutic tools within art therapy, particularly through trauma-informed and culturally responsive lenses. Participants will be introduced to key literature on textiles in art therapy, grounding theory in clinical relevance while weaving in reflections on safety, choice, and sensory experience. Together, we'll move from discussion into a hands-on experiential using accessible, familiar materials
-inviting curiosity about how fabric and texture can support regulation, meaning-making, and connection.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Attendees will be able to articulate the therapeutic qualities of textiles within art therapy.
Attendees will be able to demonstrate one textile art therapy intervention that can be used with clients through a trauma informed lens.
Attendees will learn culturally sensitive approaches to inform the integration of textile arts into therapy practices, ensuring respectful and effective interventions for diverse client backgrounds.
