    Dr. Bethany Altschwager is an art therapist, art therapy educator, and art therapy supervisor. She has thirteen years of clinical experience in community-based and healthcare settings with people from diverse backgrounds and across the lifespan. Her primary areas of interest are trauma, digital media, and fiber arts.

    Christina has worked within the New York City hospital system treating inpatient psychiatry patient since 2015. She also has experience working within: neurology, chemical dependency, COVID-19, CPEP, and medical units. Christina is dedicated to the growth & advocacy of Art Therapy.

    Stephy Hsu is an art therapist and current PsyD student in clinical psychology. She earned her MA in Art Therapy from New York University and completed her MA in clinical psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her experience spans correctional mental health, schools/early childhood, adolescent services, and community care, with a focus on perinatal mental health, trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice, and art-making to support emotional regulation and resilience.

    She is committed to expanding access to art therapy in Asia. Stephy partners with nonprofits, schools, and community organizations to offer workshops, lectures, and psychoeducational content.

    Tanvi holds a Master's in Art Therapy and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Strategic Design and Management, embodying a unique blend of creativity and strategy. With a fervent dedication to creative storytelling, Tanvi, adept in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, thrives in dynamic settings as a strategic researcher exploring innovative techniques to illuminate social relationships. Her vision is to utilize her mindfulness expertise, design thinking skills, educational background, and integrative experience to cultivate safe and expressive environments for individuals. Through her holistic approach, she endeavors to facilitate healing and self-expression, empowering individuals to navigate their inner worlds with confidence and authenticity.

    Advocacy Chair: Yeh-Chin (Esther) Wu, ATR-BC, LCAT (NY), CLAT (CT)

    Yeh-Chin (Esther) Wu is a New York-based art therapist and the Advocacy Chair of the New York Art Therapy Association. She stepped into this role with a strong commitment to advocating for the rights, visibility, and professional development of art therapists, while fostering stronger connections to resources and support networks across the state.

    Yeh-Chin (Esther) Wu’s clinical expertise centers on K–12 school-based art therapy, family therapy, and couples work. She brings a relational and trauma-informed lens to her practice, supporting children and families through creative, culturally responsive interventions.

    Student Liaison: Wei Wu, MPS, ATR

    Wei is an art therapist with a background in nursing. She earned a Master’s degree in Art Therapy from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in 2020 and is currently pursuing a PhD in Art Therapy Psychology at Dominican University of California (DUC). Upon graduation from SVA, she established one of the Taiwan's first hospital-based art therapy programs, specializing in medical trauma seen in pediatric oncology patients and neurodivergent children and led numerous art therapy groups.

    Alongside her clinical work, she has been involved in multiple research projects leading to publications in peer-reviewed art therapy journals and served as a lecturer at universities, hospitals, and professional conferences in both Taiwan and the United States. Wei also has a vested interest in the next generation of art therapists, actively promoting art therapy through her professional platforms and has mentoring many students entering the field of art therapy.

    Programming Chair: Hilarie Rose Spangler, MPS, MA

    Hilarie Spangler is an interdisciplinary artist and emerging creative arts therapist who believes art is a language for what cannot always be spoken. Her work draws from years of experience in community arts, education, and program development, creating spaces where creativity supports emotional healing and collective care. She has facilitated groups across clinical and community settings, integrating visual art, music, and movement through trauma-informed practice. As an artist, she is driven by storytelling, ritual, and connection, using creative process as both a therapeutic tool and a lifelong way of understanding the world.

    Advocacy Chair: Chit Ling 'Jennie' Yu, LCAT, ATR-BC

    Jennie Yu holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Art Therapy and Counseling from Long Island University and a Bachelor of Arts in Drawing and Painting from Augustana University. She is a trilingual (English, Cantonese, Mandarin) licensed psychotherapist with experience in New York State Article 31 clinics. Her clinical work specializes in creative arts therapy and integrates CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing. Jennie is currently the sole licensed creative arts therapist on a clinical pilot program funded by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, CONNECT (Continuous Engagement between Community and Clinic Treatment). She also serves as the Advocacy Chair of the New York Art Therapy Association.
