Purpose:

The NYATA, Inc. functions to unify art therapist in New York State, conducting presentations and workshops. We further enrich each other as clinicians through meetings, networking, and discussion. NYATA provides communication between our region and The American Art Therapy Association, and we adhere to the AATA Code of Ethics. NYATA promotes the art therapy profession through legislative activity, public relations, education, research, and maintenance of professional excellence.

From The President:

2008 has begun! With this New Year comes an opportunity for NYATA to build upon its rich foundation and venture towards new beginnings. The NYATA Board is currently working towards hosting some exciting events this year. Career Night will be held in April on Long Island, the NYATA Juried Art Show will be held in the summertime in New York City, and the NYATA Symposium will take place on October 25th in Westchester, NY. Along with infusing newness into our annual events, we are also committed to alternating the days/nights and locations of the events to make them as accessible as possible to the Art Therapy community. Details of all the upcoming events will be posted both on the NYATA website and the NYATA e-group.

It is always a great sign of the times when Board Members continue to serve throughout the years. We have been fortunate to maintain a healthy Board comprised of Art Therapists who contribute their time and talent towards representing a strong community of over 400 members. With any successful organization, the participation of membership is of utmost importance so whether you are a new member or a renewed member, THANK YOU for your support. As NYATA continues to grow, we invite you to become more involved with helping NYATA to better serve the New York Art Therapy community by joining the Board, serving on a committee, and/or lending a helping hand at NYATA events.

On behalf of the NYATA Board we would like to thank Susan Boxer Kappel, MA, ATR-BC, CGP, LCAT for not only her contributions as NYATA’s President over the past two years, but also her ongoing dedication to the NYATA Board. We are delighted that Susan will be remaining on the Board serving as Chapter Delegate to The American Art Therapy Association (AATA).

It is an honor to be serving as President of NYATA during a time of amazing growth and advancement of the Art Therapy profession. Please contact me with any questions, suggestions and feedback or just to say hello.

Take care,

Chriss Berk, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, LCAT
